With this year’s cross-country season coming to an end, we interviewed one of their runners about the season: Max Wernex. Max Wernex is an eighth grader at Lincoln Middle School. We asked him about the competition, and he told us that “being 54th in the state in my second-best sport obviously comes with some challenges. I have some great competition. But there is still a lot of balance that I must make with soccer. I could probably be even better If soccer wasn’t in the way.’’ From what we learned, we could tell that Max is very determined and driven to be successful in the things that he competes in.
Along with that, we asked him some things about himself. Max revealed that during practice he can typically run about a 7-minute mile, but his PR mile is 5 minutes 14 seconds. Max added, “the longest race I’ve ever ran was a 15k.” We also asked if he has won any medals before, and he informed us that he typically always receives medals. To wrap up the interview, we asked if cross country had positively impacted his speed in other sports like soccer. Max said, “Cross country over the years has made me much faster.”
Overall, we learned so much about Max and his cross-country journey. Good luck in all that you do, Max!
