Field hockey is a running sport similar to soccer mixed with hockey. Each team needs to have eleven players on the field. Stella Blasingim and Grace Aumend are two 8th grade field hockey players who have both played since 6th grade, so for 2 years.
Stella and Grace both play the same position, forward. Forwards are the first line of offense in field hockey. Their responsibility is to score goals, steal the ball from the opposing team and keep the ball past the line of scrimmage. The forwards usually do not pass the line of scrimmage.
We also interviewed the coaches Mrs. Tucker and Mrs. Driscoll. Mrs. Tucker and Mrs. Driscoll are both eight grade science teachers at Lincoln! We asked them to give an update on how the team has been performing. Both coaches believe that the whole team has improved since their first game.
Stella added that she is most happy about the entire team working together and how she gets to play with her friends. Stella thinks her coaches are a good influence for her and encourage her to keep playing.
Throughout our interview, we learned that almost all of the 8th grade players are planning to play for the EHS field hockey team too next year. Other field hockey players Sophia Morley and Kinley Bohnenstiehl are also going to play field hockey in high school. Grace and Stella both think their coaches have pushed them to their highest limit to be the best players they can be. We can assume that Mrs. Tucker and Mrs. Driscoll have been a huge influence on this team and are a huge factor in these girls continuing to play this sport next year.
Overall, Mrs. Tucker and Mrs. Driscoll believe the field hockey team has had a good season but that they could have played better to win some of the games. However, they are still proud of this team.
Good luck next season Wildcats!
