Are you curious about the new construction at the northeast corner of our school? I certainly was! Check out this newspaper article that explores the evolution of our building. When I visited Mr. Cory’s office, I expected simple and plain answers, but I discovered there’s a rich story behind all this construction.
As far as a timeline Mr. Cory said, “the first half of the construction should be done this summer and be ready next fall.” The construction has been going on since the beginning of the last school year. The ENTIRE thing will be done in the fall of 2027 though the newly constructed gym and cafeteria will be accessible next year.
The summer portion of construction was very productive. Mr. Cory is very proud of S.M. Wilson for getting the school ready in time for us with all the challenges they faced.
What students can expect next year are a new gym, a new cafeteria, and plenty of updated classrooms, but they can also expect levels 2 & 3 directly above the main office to be closed due to construction. As you may have noticed, each grade level is split into different teams. In the upcoming years, classroom teams will be next to each other rather than spread out for all grade levels.
Some things students can expect in the following years is the demolition of everything by the 6th grade hallway. Procedures like parent drop-off will change again in the school year of 2026-2027.
Regarding the overall update, Mr. Cory stated himself that “the layout will be easier for not only students to maneuver, but also teachers.” Mr. Cory expressed that he just really wants us to know how excited he is for current students to build their legacy with these new updates.
