Electives have been a part of student’s daily life for a few years. With new electives being introduced every year, the students are given plenty of choices and opportunities to learn new things. With all the buzz around electives, we decided to get the students’ opinions.
Each year students are able to select the electives they want to participate in. Each student is not guaranteed their pick, but most of the time you will get what you asked for. The electives range from writing-based classes, like Intro to Journalism, all the way to classes on how to cook, like Home Alone. Sadly, a student cannot retake the same elective twice, and taking performing arts limits the number of electives a student can pick.
When we asked an eighth grader, Kaitlyn B, whether she enjoyed having electives on alternating orange and blue days, she answered with, “No, I think that if they did it quarterly then it would be a lot less confusing.” Seventh grader, Aubree K added, ” “I think it can be hectic at times knowing and remembering what are on orange days and what are on blue days.”
A positive response we heard went as followed, “I like the electives, because they give us a break from our regular classes,” said a seventh-grade student, Quinn E.
With all the diverse electives to choose from, most students are content with their choices. The electives have drawn positive feedback, and the students seem to enjoy them.
