This year’s 2025 track season is officially underway, and we got the chance to catch up with some of this year’s athletes to hear what they’re most excited about. We interviewed a few 8th graders to get their thoughts and goals for the upcoming season.
We started off by chatting with Laila Roundtree, Journey Anderson, Carter Luckett, and Peyton Ohlau. We asked them a bunch of questions about their favorite events, what they’re hoping to achieve this season, and what they love most about track. Here’s what they had to say!
First up, Laila Roundtree shared that her main goal is to make it to state again, just like last year. When asked about her favorite event, she said she loves the 100 because it’s quick and exciting. Laila competes in the 100, 4×100 relay, and the 4×400 relay, showing off her versatility on the track!
Next, we talked to Journey Anderson, who told us that the 100 and 200 are her favorite events. “They’re short and sweet,” she said, which makes them a perfect fit for her.
We also asked Carter Luckett about his favorite coach, and without hesitation, he mentioned Mr. Pacatte. According to Carter, Mr. Pacatte is always so encouraging and really believes in his runners, which makes all the difference when pushing yourself to improve.
Finally, we caught up with Peyton Ohlau and asked why he decided to join track. Peyton explained that it’s just so much fun and he loves running alongside his friends. It’s clear that for Peyton, track is all about enjoying the race and having a good time with teammates.
We’re excited to see how these athletes perform this season, and it sounds like 2025 is going to be one to remember!
