Are you wondering what it’s like to be a cheerleader at Lincoln Middle School? With multiple opinions and lots of insight from inside the cheer world, this is your chance to find out!
Erin Meyer and Josie Swafford were our amazing coaches for the 2024–2025 season but are now retiring. They always helped us with critics, perfected our stunts, and always gave us the reassurance we needed. They always encouraged new students to join the cheer team and welcomed everyone. The coaches always helped the cheerleaders in school and encouraged everyone to do their best. The focus for the coaches was safety, whether girls were practicing on the mats or performing.
Cheering is a very fun sport, and all the girls loved and enjoyed it very much. Seventh grader Averie Madison said, “I liked all of the events and the competitions.” Many other teammates would also agree.
Luca VanAllman and Chloe Miller both agree that cheer has its ups and downs—like injuries, for example. Injuries in cheer can be very serious and can happen very easily, but with the coaches we had, injuries were never a worry for the Wildcat Cheer team.
Cheerleading is an amazing privilege to be able to have, and even if you do not want to do competitive cheer, you have an opportunity to do sideline cheer! Sideline cheer is cheering for football players and football games. On the other hand, if you want to compete, you must work very hard and give it your all, because cheering is not an easy sport.
