Mr. S is a coach for Lincoln’s Boys’ Basketball; he is also the 7th grade math teacher. He started playing basketball at 7 years old and continued through high school all the way to graduation. The positions he played were small forward and center. Small forward assists with offensive and defensive rebounding but is also responsible for ball handling along with the point guard and shooting guard. The center is the tallest player on each team and assists by the basket.
This year will be his third year coaching the Wildcats. Last year they got third place in regionals, tying 7-7. The biggest challenge last year was learning how to play as a team. A few teams that were hard to beat were East St. Louis Lincoln and Clark. To hopefully beat them this year, the team will be focusing on rebounding, so that the opposing team has less chance to score any extra points. Rebounding might also help the team meet their goal of .500 (winning more games than they lose).
If you want to help them meet this goal, tryouts are on October 21st -22nd after school from 6:00-8:00 pm. You will need to have a sports physical. Your parents also need to sign you up in PowerSchool. Basketball shoes, shorts, and a shirt are needed as well.
The team is looking for people who can dribble while walking and running without looking at the ball, have good shooting form, and can help their defense. So, lace up your sneaks and come try out!
